DONATIONS AND SUPPORT FOR THOSE IN NEED RESULTING FROM THE WOOROLOO FIRES.
The Shire is receiving enquiries regarding the donation of food, equipment, general necessities, and the possibility of opening the evacuation centres, which are the Memorial Hall and the Showground Pavilion, in Toodyay. These evacuation centres will not be opened until the decision to activate them is made by the agreement of the Department of Communities, DFES and the Shire.
As this incident is still very active and until it has significantly eased, we ask that people please hold off on any donations until a well-organised structure is in place to manage the receipt, sorting, storage and distribution of donations to ensure that they get to those who can use them. Until such time as we are best able to direct offers of assistance, please stay at home and remain vigilant in our communities.
The Lord Mayor of Perth has activated the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund to accept financial donations: https://appealswa.org.au/
Donations may also be made to the Salvation Army and Red Cross. In addition, there are several interest groups on Facebook accepting donations to provide gift vouchers so people are able to purchase the things that they specifically need.
If you have space on your property to shelter animals affected by the fires or even accommodation for those who have been displaced, please continue to comment on your Facebook posts to offer your assistance.
As always, the community of Toodyay has shown its unique ability and generosity in its offer of a helping hand and assistance during this time of emergency and it is deeply appreciated.
