The Shire of Toodyay has received the RoadWise Road Infrastructure Improvement (Rural/Remote) Road Safety Award at the 2023 WA Local Government Association (WALGA) Convention, held at Crown Perth from September 17-19.

This award acknowledges the safe system approach of our Bindi-Bindi-Toodyay Road realignment project, which involved our Infrastructure & Assets team reconstructing the road, removing roadside hazards, and installing signage in addition to audio-tactile edge lines, guideposts, and reflective pavement markers to significantly reduce risk in a known crash location.

WALGA President Cr Karen Chappel presents the award to the Shire’s Coordinator Civil Works & Maintenance, Aldo Lamas, at Crown Perth on September 18.

Our road safety improvements were also commended at last year’s convention, when we received a Road Safety Award for the Julimar Road realignment project.

The Road Safety Awards are a joint initiative between WALGA’s RoadWise and the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia, acknowledging achievements by local governments in the area of road safety and recognising engineering innovation that contributes to safe system implementation. A full list of the 2023 winners is available here.

Congratulations to all staff involved in the Bindi-Bindi-Toodyay Road realignment project, and to everybody else making Toodyay a safer place to drive.
