Effective Dog Confinement in the Shire

In a rural setting like Toodyay, your perimeter fencing – in most cases – does not make the grade when it comes to dog confinement. A secure area on the inside of the perimeter is best practice.
The fence used to confine your dog, and every gate or door in the fence, must be of type, height and construction suitable for the dog’s breed, age, size and physical condition. It must also be capable of preventing the dog from passing over, under or through it at all times.
As a responsible dog owner, it is up to you to know where your dog is at all times.
Failing these requirements leads to wandering dogs and dog attacks.
If you see a wandering dog, contact the Rangers who can inform and direct dog owners.
If your dog/dogs are involved in a dog attack, every person liable for the control of the dog commits an offence under the Dog Act 1976.
